Last month, it was revealed that HBO content like “The Last Of Us” and “Game Of Thrones” would be leaving Disney+ Hotstar at some point this year. And today, we’ve got confirmation, as the official Disney+ Hotstar help social media account has confirmed, that all of the HBO content will be unavailable on Disney+ Hotstar in India from 31st March 2023.

Starting 31st March, HBO content will be unavailable on Disney+ Hotstar. You can continue enjoying Disney+ Hotstar’s vast library of content spanning over 100,000 hours of TV Shows and Movies in 10 languages and coverage of major global sporting events.

HBO and Star India made a deal back in 2015 to bring HBO content to its Hotstar streaming service.  Since that deal was made, the Walt Disney Company purchased 20th Century Studios, which owned Star India, with the streaming service being rebranded to Disney+ Hotstar in 2020.

Recently, Disney revealed in its quarterly investors call that it had lost 4 million subscribers in India due to the platform losing the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, and it’s likely, losing HBO content from Disney+ Hotstar will also see more subscribers leaving the platform in the next quarter.  However, no doubt this move is being made to save money, as renewing an HBO deal wouldn’t be cheap. Plus, with new owners, Warner Brothers Discovery are looking for platforms that will pay the most.

There are some incredible shows from HBO that are currently available on Disney+ Hotstar, including:

  • Entourage
  • Ballers
  • Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon
  • Band Of Brothers
  • Broadwalk Empire
  • The Wire
  • Curb Your Enth
  • Watchmen
  • Mare Easttown
  • And many more.

So if you haven’t already done so, you’ve only got a few more weeks to watch these shows before they leave Disney+ Hotstar.
