‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Sequel “The Testaments” Getting Close To Greenlight From Hulu

With the hit drama series, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, coming to a close after six seasons, a new spin-off series called “The Testaments” is currently in development.

The sequel series hasn’t yet been given a greenlight, but so far, Chase Infiniti has been cast as one of the main three leads. Chase has previously starred in the legal thriller drama “Presumed Innocent”. Ann Dowd is also returning to reprise her role of Lydia from “The Handmaid’s Tale”.

“The Testaments” is based on a novel by Margaret Atwood, which takes place in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead more than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. The story follows the lives of three women, Aunt Lydia (Dowd), Agnes (Infiniti) and Daisy, whose fates become intertwined as they uncover the secrets of Gilead and the resistance against its regime.

Bruce Miller will create this new series, serving as the showrunner and executive producer. Other producers are currently finalising their deals. Warren Littlefield from The Littlefield Company will also executive produce, with Amazon MGM Studios as the studio.

Since Amazon MGM Studios is creating the series for Disney’s Hulu, it’s unclear if the show will be released on Amazon Prime Video or Disney+ internationally. The show is available on Amazon Prime Video outside of the United States.

According to Deadline, production is scheduled to begin at the end of March in Toronto, Canada. No other details have been revealed, and if Hulu doesn’t greenlight the series, it could still be paused, delayed, or cancelled.

The sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” will debut on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States on April 8th with three episodes, then weekly for a finale on May 27th.
