Last year, Disney released a brand new animated series called “Hailey’s On It”, which follows Hailey Banks, a risk-averse but resourceful teenager on a mission to complete every item on her long list of challenging (and sometimes impractical) tasks in order to save the world. Hailey will be pushed outside her comfort zone to discover the greatness within as she systematically conquers her fears, whether she is winning a sand-building competition, wrestling a honey badger, eating a raw onion, or facing her ever-growing and complicated feelings toward her best friend, Scott.

This series stars  Auli’i Cravalho (“Moana”) as Hailey, along with Manny Jacinto (“The Acolyte”) as the voice of Scott, Hailey’s best friend, and Gary Anthony Williams (“The Boondocks”) as the voice of Beta, an artificially intelligent operating system from the future. The series’ trailer was also released today.  This series was created by Devin Bunje and Nick Stanton (Disney XD’s “Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything”).

“Hailey’s On It!” was released on Disney+ and the Disney Channel last summer, with the season finale being released earlier this summer, and many fans had been waiting for news of a potential second season.

However, that looks very unlikely, as the show was removed from Disney+ around the world without warning earlier today.

Over the past few years, we’ve seen Disney remove shows that it’s cancelled to save money.  Often, these “assets” are “written off” as an impairment charge to save the company money.  Plus, there are often additional costs involved in keeping the show available on Disney+, such as server costs, residuals and other costs.

We’ve seen shows such as “Willow,” “Big Shot,” and “The Mysterious Benedict Society” removed from the platform, along with many more. Anytime a show is cancelled, Disney will likely remove its content quickly afterwards, especially if the show only ran for one season.

It’s possible that “Hailey’s On It” could return to Disney+ in the future, but it’s unlikely, as we’ve seen very few shows, especially those with the Disney brand attached, return.

The future of the show has been in doubt for a while, since earlier this year, Auli’i Cravalho, who starred in the title role of Hailey hinted that the show looks to have been cancelled after one season, as her Spotify profile and states:

She also provided the voice of Hailey for the short-lived Disney animated series Hailey’s on It!

Roger’s Take:  It’s unfortunate for fans of the show that they can no longer watch “Hailey’s On It”, and it highlights one of the major problems with streaming services.   Cancelling shows is nothing new, it’s been going on since TV began, but in the past, if a show was unsuccessful, it might never air again and often just forgetten.  But in a world with the internet, it isn’t really possible to be completely wiped out.  It’s unlikely we will get any more updates on this show, but it also highlights why new shows need to be supported and, more importantly, watched because if they don’t, they are quickly wiped out.

What do you think of “Hailey’s On It” being removed?  Let me know on social media!
