The second day of Star Wars Celebration kicked off in London, England, today, and the first major panel was for the upcoming Disney+ Original series, “Ahsoka”. The first trailer for the show was released during Friday’s Lucasfilm Showcase panel, and a Disney+ release window for August 2023 was announced.

Set after the fall of the Empire, “Ahsoka” follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

Taking part in the panel was the show’s creators, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, along with Rosario Dawson and co-stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who plays Sabine Wren, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who will be playing Hera Syndulla.

A new extended trailer for the Disney+ show was shown to the audience, and we got our first look at who will be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn, which was revealed to be Lars Mikkelsen, who played the character in the animated series. Lars then took to the stage to speak to the fans about his experience filming the show, where the audience managed to convince the panel to show the trailer again.

Author Timothy Zahn originally created Thrawn as part of a series of Star Wars novels that were released in the 1990s that covered the events following 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.” The character was reintroduced in the “Star Wars: Rebels” animated series and then mentioned by Ahsoka in “The Mandalorian”.

It was also confirmed that Kevin Kiner would be returning to provide the music for the upcoming Disney+ show.  It was also confirmed that David Tennant has also returned to record the voice of droid character Huyang in the series.   David had previously voiced the character in Filoni’s animated version of the series and won a Daytime Emmy for his work on the show.   It was also revealed during the panel that David recorded all of his lines before the series had started filming, so Rosario Dawson was able to react to his words.

And Dave Filoni also revealed that he would be directing some of the new “Ahsoka” episodes, in addition to Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Getta Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.
