Filming has now been paused on the FX “Alien” series due to the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strike, which has been able to continue filming, since internationally, things are a little different, as the “Alien” production team has been using local actors in addition to actors who belong to the British union, Equity, who aren’t on strike and so must continue to work, or else they could potentially be sued for a breach of contract. The new FX series is also an Equity production, which is why work has continued in Thailand.  Some of the crew members on the FX series will still be preparing the sets during the pause in filming for when the strike ends.

The new “Alien” series was initially announced at the Disney Investor Day in 2020. It is set within the classic 20th Century Studios franchise and is being created by Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott. The new series is set not too far into our future, and it’s the first Alien story set on Earth. It blends both the timeless horror of the first “Alien” film with the non-stop action of the second and will take place before Ripley.

SAG-AFTRA union are on strike to demand that the studios, including Disney, improve working conditions and increase pay for actors.

The series stars Sydney Chandler (Pistol), in the main role. However, she hasn’t been filming due to the strike since she’s an American actress.  “Alien” also stars Alex Lawther (Star Wars: Andor), Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror), Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger).

Deadline has also reported that Kit Young will star in the series as a character called Tootles.  Kit has previously starred in the Netflix series, “Shadow And Bone,” and the Netflix film, “The School For Good And Evil”.

This new “Alien” series will be coming to Hulu in the United States and will be released internationally on Disney+.  And the previous “Alien” films are available to stream now on Disney+ in many countries, including the UK, Canada and Australia.
