FX’s “Adults” Season Two Increases Viewership By 40%

Last month, Disney released the second season of the FX comedy series, “Adults” on the FXX linear channel, along with Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally.

The show is about a group of twenty-somethings in New York trying to be good people, despite being neither “good” nor “people” yet. Samir, Billie, Paul Baker, Issa and Anton share their meals, anxieties and, occasionally, toothbrushes. Over the eight-episode season, the housemates tackle capital-R Responsibility to varying degrees of success.

In the second season, the housemates tackle a new set of real-world questions. What if the 20-year-old who inherited your fake ID is cooler than you ever were, and younger than you’ll ever be again? How do you explain to your friends that you actually love your boring office job? Why does being around your family make you regress into your worst self? And how do you ask for things to change, when you also need everything to stay the same? Together, the friends weave intricate webs of multi-player strategy just to avoid hurting someone else’s feelings. They invent elaborate workarounds for problems they’re too afraid to face head-on. It’s not so much that they keep learning the same lessons – it’s that they keep finding new ways to make mistakes. But the one thing they consistently get right: showing up for each other.

Disney has announced that the second season has been able to increase its viewership of “Adults” by 40% over the first season within the first 12 days since the eight-episode season debuted.

The linear viewership on FXX wasn’t that impressive, due to the show’s target audience generally not watching linear television, though the show was able to drastically increase the viewership of the show internationally on Disney+, which was up over 100% on the previous season.

Disney also used a unique way to promote the release of the new season, by releasing a special episode at the end of July, which got fans more excited about the show.

This series stars Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao and Owen Thiele. It has also had an impressive list of guest stars including Charlie Cox, Julia Fox, Susie Essman, Raven-Symoné, Gaten Matarazzo, Jake Shane, Isaac Powell, Ben Marshall, Zosia Mamet and more.

FX’s “Adults” is executive produced by Ben Kronengold & Rebecca Shaw (“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”), Nick Kroll (“Big Mouth”, “The League”), Sarah Naftalis (“What We Do in the Shadows”), Jonathan Krisel (“Baskets,” “English Teacher”), Alicia Van Couvering (“Tiny Furniture,” “Drinking Buddies”) and Rob Rosell (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “DAVE”). “Adults” is produced by FX Productions.

Both seasons of “Adults” are available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally.
