With many of the major studios slowly starting to consolidate their streaming services together and slowly pulling back from linear television, FOX has announced that it has closed down its FOX NOW app, which means broadcast, cable and satellite customers can no longer use the app to watch or catch up on FOX programming.

On the FOX NOW website, customers are being pointed towards other methods of watching its content, which includes Hulu.  Earlier this year, FOX announced a new multiyear deal with Disney that encompasses in-season streaming rights for FOX’s expansive programming slate and an extensive multi-platform strategic marketing alliance.

Here is the announcement FOX posted on their website about the change:

FOX NOW is no longer available; please enjoy these other great apps from FOX. Whether it’s sports, news, local updates, or entertainment content, we want to create deeper engagement and ensure viewers can seamlessly explore and enjoy their favorite content within our ecosystem of brand-specific apps such as FOX Sports, FOX News, FOX Local, and Tubi.

We want to ensure viewers can seamlessly explore and enjoy their favorite content within our ecosystem of brand-specific apps such as FOX Sports, FOX News, FOX Local, and Tubi.

Live Sporting Events on the FOX Sports App: The industry leader in live Sports events and engaging commentary. Download the FOX Sports app on compatible devices.

FOX News Live on the FOX NEWS App: Breaking news and opinion from America’s #1 most-watched news brand. Download the FOX News app on compatible devices.

Local FOX News on the FOX News Local App: News and local programming, free and on-demand from your FOX station. Download the FOX News local app on compatible devices.

Tubi: Watch over 50,000 movies and TV shows free, on-demand on Tubi. Download the Tubi app on compatible devices.

FOX TV Programming: via the web on FOX.com using supported browsers or Hulu via supported devices.

This closure is likely being done to save money for FOX but also to push viewers to its own free streaming service, Tubi and to Hulu, which is paying for this content.  So it’s unclear if the closure of FOX NOW is connected to the deal with Disney to encourage more signups to Hulu.
