Later this year, the BBC and Disney will release some new “Doctor Who” holiday specials to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the show on BBC in the UK and Ireland, and on Disney+ around the world.

“Doctor Who” is one of the longest-running and most successful programs in television history, Doctor Who boasts an estimated 100 million fans in 54 countries. With high production values, innovative CGI from Oscar-winning company The Mill, an all-star cast and scripts, Doctor Who is the ultimate adventure in the human race – gripping, breathtaking and action-packed.

In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, it was confirmed that Gemma Arrowsmith, Billy Brayshaw, Mary Malone, and Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy will be starring in the upcoming Christmas special and season 14, which will see Ncuti Gatwa taking over as the Doctor, along with his new assistant, Ruby, who Millie Gibson will play.   We don’t yet know what characters these actors will be playing.

Gemma Arrowsmith has previously starred in “Code 404” and “Tracey Ullman’s Show”. While Billy Brayshaw has appeared in “Dawn Chorus” and “A Christmas Story Christmas”.  Mary Malone has previously starred in “The Prince” and “Vera”.  And Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy has starred in “Hollyoaks”.

The show’s producer Phil Collinson said:

The cast for our end-of-year special is continuing to grow. Though still with some names we haven’t announced yet!  But it is a delight to welcome two more names on board, with Gemma Arrowsmith and Mary Malone… and you won’t have to wait long to find out how they connect to the Doctor and Ruby Sunday.

Coming up after that, in the 2024 series, it’s a delight to open the studio doors to a former star of Holloaks with Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy. His character in the ‘Oaks, Jesse, died of alcohol poisoning on his wedding day, so let’s hope he has a more peaceful time in the Whoniverse. Although I can’t promise!

And, in a separate episode, we’re delighted to say hello to Billy Brayshaw. And there are so more names to come!”

Also starring in the new series will be Lenny Rush, Bonnie Langford, Indira Varma, Jonathan Groff, Jinkx Monsoon, Jemma Redgrave, Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson and Michelle Greenidge.

“Doctor Who” returns in November 2023 with three special episodes with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary. Ncuti Gatwa’s first episode as the Fifteenth Doctor will air over the festive period.  Filming on the fourteenth season wrapped filming prior to the actor’s strike beginning and will be coming out next year.

“Doctor Who” will premiere exclusively on the BBC for the UK and Ireland. Disney+ will be the exclusive home for new seasons of “Doctor Who outside of the UK and Ireland.
