This weekend, Disney is hosting its bi-annual D23 event, which has been renamed to D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event and will be taking place in Anaheim.

Due to the success of previous events, Disney has moved the biggest panels from the Anaheim Convention Center over to the Honda Center, with Friday night’s event featuring a Entertainment Showcase for movies and shows, Saturdays’s being about experiences like Disneyland and Cruise Ships, while the Sunday night event will be the Legends panel, which is Disney’s version of the Hall Of Fame.

Earlier this year, Disney revealed at CES in Las Vegas that they were planning on livestreaming some of the event to those at home through Disney+, however since then, we’ve heard nothing about Disney’s plans.

However, today, it’s been announced that the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase will now stream live, exclusvily through Fortnite, rather than Disney+.

The Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase will be taking place on Saturday, August 10th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Honda Center and will be an immersive celebration of Disney Experiences around the world. Accompanied by a special lineup of musical numbers, surprise appearances, and a few familiar faces, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro will host this exciting showcase, woven together by the theme of music. Throughout the show, fans can expect updates on new and highly anticipated projects across Disney Experiences, along with new ways for generations of fans to connect with their favourite Disney stories.

Disney Horizons Live from D23 will be accessible starting on August 10th 2024, at 7:30 PM PT / 10:30 PM ET, and the stream will begin shortly after at 8:30 PM PT / 11:30 PM ET. You’ll be able to join the island from the Homebar in Discover (the top row) or by using island code 7908-6413-2516.

If you can’t catch the stream live or just want to rewatch, Disney Horizons Live from D23 will be around until August 16th 2024, with the presentation on loop. To celebrate the announcements, all players who visit the island for 10 minutes will be granted the Peelverine Plush Back Bling plus XP on August 16th 2024.

There will also be some new Fortnite reveals during the event. The next Fortnite season is expected to be a Marvel themed event and last year, Disney announced it was teaming up with Epic Games to bring a brand new Disney experience to Fortnite, so that’s also likely going to be a focus as well.

Roger’s Take: Previously, the Parks Panel would be live-streamed directly onto YouTube, and while it’s great those of us at home are going to be able to see some of the event, it looks like the entire panel isn’t being live-streamed and the Fortnite portion is being held back to the second half of the presentation.    While I understand live streaming the Fortnite section to audiences within the game, like previous events, it does feel like a weird move for parks fans and also likely means we might not get to see the Entertainment showcase panel live-streamed either.

Earlier this week, a timer popped up within the Fortnite game, counting down to what many players expected to be a new event connected to the end of the current chapter, but now it’s been revealed in this live stream, which I’m not entirely sure will go down well with younger players!  Especially as many won’t care about the latest theme park reveal, but this will certainly reach a different audience, though older Disney fans who wanted to watch the panel, will now have to work out how to use Fortnite, but maybe they can jump into the Fall Guys levels while waiting for it to start!

What do you think about the Horizons Panel being streamed directly through Fortnite instead of Disney+?  Let me know on social media!
