At this week’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Disney has released some new details on the upcoming fifth instalment in the iconic “Toy Story” franchise.

The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” and this time around, it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with this all-new threat to playtime.

The film’s new villain will be a tech tablet called Lillypad, which Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang will need to confront as a new generation of children more enamoured with screens than playthings.

A first look image from the film has been released, giving us our first look at Lillypad in “Toy Story 5”:

Both Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are going to be returning to provide the voices of Buzz Lightyear and Woody, with it being confirmed at Annecy that Joan Cusack will be returning as the role of Jessie.  It was also confirmed that Ernie Hudson will be taking over the role of Combat Carl, replacing the late Carl Weathers.

The movie will be directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by McKenna Harris and produced by Jessica Choi.

“Toy Story 5” opens only in theatres on June 19th, 2026 and will be coming to Disney+ later in the year.  The previous “Toy Story” movies, along with many animated shorts, are available to stream on Disney+.
