During this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics held a panel called “Jim Lee & Friends”, where a first look video of the upcoming adult animated series, “Creature Commandos”, which will be coming to Max in December.

“Creature Commandos” tells the story of a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option.

Jim Lee, who is the President, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, welcomed a surprise greeting from filmmaker and DC Studio’s Co-Chair and CEO James Gunn, who wanted the fans in the room to be the first in the world to see an official teaser for the seven-episode series.

Check out the first look of “Creature Commandos”:

The series stars Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

“Creature Commandos” is written and executive produced by James Gunn. Based on DC characters and produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation; additional executive producers include Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register; Rick Morales serves as a supervising producer.

Earlier this week, Disney launched a brand new bundle, where you can get Disney+, Hulu and Max for $16.99/month with ads and $29.99/month without ads.

Roger’s Take:  One of the things I do love about DC is how their animation division is often far superior to their live-action side. This animated series doesn’t feature any major well-known characters, but it looks like it’s going to be a fun watch for older kids, since this certainly isn’t Saturday morning cartoon time!  It’s just odd that this is the first major release from DC Studios after its soft reboot with James Gunn taking over.
