Filming On Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” Disney+ Series Suspended Due To Writer’s Strike
Filming on the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again” has been suspended for the week following a targeted picketing campaign by the Writers Guild Of America, which has seen filming in New York disrupted earlier in the week.
The new Disney+ series will see some of the actors from the Netflix shows returning, with Charlie Cox returning to the role of Daredevil; Vincent D’Onofrio is also returning as the Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal is reprising his role of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Also starring in the new Disney+ series will be Michael Gandolfini, Arty Froushan, Sandrine Holt, Margarita Levieva and Nikki M. James.
The picket began early Monday morning, outside of Silvercup East. Members of Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 refused to cross the picket line, so filming was cancelled for the afternoon. Filming was supposed to continue the next day, but the picketers returned and disrupted filming again.
The WGA East has since declared victory on social media:
Striking WGA members holding the line and shutting down production of…. >”Billions” in Chelsea & Brooklyn >”Daredevil” in Brooklyn (completely shut down) >”Sinking Spring” in Philly #WGAStrong
This isn’t the only production that has been halted due to the writer’s strike, as other shows, including “American Horror Story” and “Billions”, have also been disrupted. The new Disney+ show is being written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, who cannot be on the set due to the WGA strike.
It’s not known when filming for the upcoming Disney+ series will continue or if Disney may move the filming location to continue filming.
Both seasons of “The Punisher” are also available to stream now on Disney+, along with the three Daredevil seasons.
