Faly Rakotohavana & Jordyn McIntosh Join Onyx Collective Series “Unprisoned”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Disney’s Onyx Collective was developing its first scripted comedy series called “Unprisoned”, which is being created by Tracy McMillan (“Mad Men,” Marvel’s “Runaways”). The eight-episode series is produced by ABC Signature and will be streamed exclusively on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories.
Inspired by McMillan’s life, “Unprisoned” is a half-hour comedy about a messy but perfectionist relationship therapist and single mom whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad gets out of prison and moves in with her and her teenage son.
Star and executive producer Kerry Washington (“Little Fires Everywhere,” “Scandal”) plays Paige Alexander, a marriage and family therapist and mom to 16-year-old Finn. Washington will produce along with executive producer Pilar Savone through their Simpson Street production company.
Deadline has announced that Faly Rakotohavana and Jordyn McIntosh (Emancipation) have been cast as series regulars.
Faly Rakotohavana will play Finn. Super-logical (a gamer), low-key but hilarious, sweet, smart and hyper-rational, Finn is the son of single mom/family therapist/influencer Paige (Washington). Finn is open hearted and open-minded toward his grandfather, and their relationship becomes a bridge home for Edwin — and a bridge into the world for Finn. Faly has previously starred in the Disney+ Original film, “Secret Society of Second Born Royals” and the Disney Channel series, “Raven’s Home”.
Jordyn McIntosh will portray Little Paige. Seven-year-old Little Paige is the personification of grown-up Paige’s Inner Child, she’s the part of Paige untouched by everything that has happened in her life — losing her mother, foster care, a dad in prison. She shows up regularly, speaking directly to us (and to Paige) with a hilarious and incisive wisdom of the all-knowing child. Jordyn has also starred in “Emancipation” and will soon be seen in ABC’s “Abbott Elementary”.
Delroy Lindo (“Da 5 Bloods”) executive produces and stars as Edwin Alexander, Paige’s father, who has recently been released from prison. Lindo recently starred in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods” (New York Film Critics Award’s Best Actor) and “The Harder They Fall” for Netflix. He has had memorable film roles in “The Cider House Rules,” “Heist,” “Ransom” and “Get Shorty,” and previously garnered acclaim for a trio of films with Spike: “Clockers,” “Crooklyn” and “Malcolm X.” Lindo will begin production on “Blade” for Marvel Studios this summer, and he will also be starring in Neil Gaiman’s limited series “Anansi Boys.”
Yvette Lee Bowser (“Living Single,” “Dear White People,” “Run the World”) serves as executive producer and showrunner. Joy Gorman Wettels (“13 Reasons Why”) will executive produce with Anonymous Content. Jen Braeden (“Love, Victor”) is also an executive producer. The series is produced by ABC Signature.
