Up until the actor’s strike started last month, Marvel Studios was filming the third instalment in the “Deadpool” franchise, in the United Kingdom. The new film will see Ryan Reynolds return as the Merc with a Mouth, along with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. Also returning for the third film will be Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli KutsunaKaran Soni, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Jennifer Garner, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic. This is in addition to the film starring “The Crown‘s” Emma Corrin and “Succession‘s” Matthew Macfadyen.

Shawn Levy will be directing “Deadpool 3”, and it has been written by Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will be a producer on the film, along with Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds.

During a recent interview with Empire Magazine to promote the upcoming FX series, “A Murder at the End of the World”, which was made prior to the actor’s strike starting, Emma Corrin revealed some details about getting the role. It’s unknown what role Emma will be playing, but we know that she will be playing a villain.

“I feel really excited to play a villain. I haven’t done that, and it’s an itch I want to scratch.”

Marvel is notorious for being secretive, and Emma explained about this:

“I’d heard about the project but, classic Marvel, they couldn’t tell me anything about it.  Absolutely nothing. Zilch. So I met [Shawn] being like, ‘I don’t know what this is about.’”

She also told Marvel how she knew very little about superheroes.

“Hands up, I’m not a Marvel person.  I’ve watched ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Black Panther.’ I was like, ‘Look, you’re gonna have to debrief me into this.’ It’s such an intricate world. There’s so much to it, it’s an absolute mindfuck. All the language and the Easter eggs, and this person is related to that person who did this, and this person came back and this person’s dead… it’s amazing.  I really understand why it means as much as it does to so many people. It’s a phenomenon, and I feel really lucky to be part of it. Especially ‘Deadpool,’ because I love the fact that it’s self-aware, and critical of its own inner-workings.”

“Deadpool 3” is currently scheduled to be released on May 3rd, 2024, and it will be the first rated-R film from Marvel Studios. However, depending on how long the writer’s and actors’ strikes last, this release date could be at risk of being missed and the entire Marvel Studios schedule is once again adjusted.

While we wait for the new film, the first two “Deadpool” films and “Logan” are available to stream now on Disney+.
