“Doctor Who” Season 2 Disney+ & BBC Release Date Announced
Disney and the BBC has announced new details on the upcoming second season of “Doctor Who”, which returns to our screens soon, with Ncuti Gatwi returning as The Doctor, with Varada Sethu joining the cast as a new companion called Belinda Chandra.
In the new season, The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies and wider terrors than ever before.
Season two will officially launch on Saturday, 12th April 2025, at 8am on BBC iPlayer and later that day on BBC One in the UK. At the same time, those outside of the UK can watch the Doctor and Belinda on their epic adventures on Disney+ in many countries around the world including in the United States, Canada and Australia. The eight-episode series will see new episodes drop each week, with those new episodes being released at 12:00 a.m. PDT / 3:00 a.m. EDT. on Disney+
And that’s not all… Disney has announced that Emmy Award winner Alan Cumming will guest star in the second episode as Mr Ring-a-Ding. He’s a happy, funny, singalong cartoon, who lives in Sunny Town with his friend Sunshine Sally. However, in 1952, after years of repeats in cinemas across the land, Mr Ring-a-Ding suddenly looks beyond the screen and sees the real world outside – and the consequences are terrifying.
Russell T Davies, Showrunner, said in a statement:
“Only Alan Cumming could give a runaway cartoon so much wit, malice, danger and fun. He makes the whole universe of Doctor Who wilder and madder than ever, and it’s an absolute honour to welcome him on board the TARDIS.”
The new season stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Also adventuring through time and space this season are Rose Ayling-Ellis, Anita Dobson, Christopher Chung, Michelle Greenidge, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave, and Susan Twist.
They have also released two new posters for the upcoming season:
“Doctor Who” is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television.
The first season, along with the 60th Anniversary and Christmas specials are available to stream on the BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Disney+ internationally.
