Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” Sequel In Development

Today marks “626 Day”, which is also known as “Stitch” day, and to celebrate, Disney has announced that a sequel to the live-action reimagining of the hit movie, “Lilo & Stitch” is now in development

Lilo & Stitch” is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family.

The live-action movie was released in cinemas in May and has gone on to become one of the most successful films at the box office this year so far, pulling in over $923 million worldwide. Also set a new benchmark as the highest-grossing 4-day Memorial Day weekend opening in U.S. history. The film also notched an exceptional response from audience, garnering an “A” CinemaScore.

The new film has been directed by award-winning filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp, with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes, and stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, with Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, and introducing Maia Kealoha. “Lilo & Stitch” is produced by Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin, with Tom Peitzman, Ryan Halprin, Louie Provost, and Thomas Schumacher serving as executive producers.

With the early announcement of the “Lilo & Stitch” sequel, no other details have been revealed, such as when it might be released or what the plot will be about, as it could be an original story or based on one of the straight-to-video animated sequels.

Disney has released a little video showing Stitch on the Walt Disney Studios lot making the announcement.

You can watch the original animated “Lilo & Stitch” movie on Disney+ now, and we should expect to see the live-action version added to Disney+ in a couple of months.

After such as huge box office success, it should come as no surprise that Disney is making a sequel to it and announcing it today is only going to help boost the box office of the film even more so.
