Disney TV Entertainment Reinstate First Look & Overall Deals Suspended During Strikes
Earlier this month, Disney, along with many of the other studios, suspended many of the overall deals it had with creators due to the ongoing actor and writer strikes. However, with the writer’s strike coming to an end this week and negotiations set to begin next week between SAG-AFTRA and the studios, according to TheWrap, Disney’s 20th Television and ABC Signature are among the studios that have resumed many of its overall deals with its creators from today.
The overall and first-look deals that have been resumed include
- Gina Rodriguez (Not Dead Yet),
- Justin Hartley (Arrow),
- Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us),
- Mandy More (Tangled),
- Yara Shahidi (Grown-Ish),
- Marc Webb (Rebel),
- Hiro Murai (The Bear),
- Billy Porter (Pose),
- Stacey Sher (Miss America).
With the writer’s strike now over, many other studios, including Warner Brothers Discovery, have also started resuming these deals. While the deals weren’t immediately paused when the writer’s strike began in May, since producers could continue working, but once the actors went on strike, development came to a halt. But now, with writing resuming and production getting revved up to resume once the actor’s strike is over, things are slowly returning to normal.
