Disney has announced that it will close down the Disney Movie Insiders app on Android and Apple devices from the 1st of September, 2023.   The program won’t be closing down.  Instead, Disney is focusing on only offering the service through its website. However, it will be changing how members can collect their points.

The Disney Movie Insiders app has officially been sunset as of September 1, 2023. We’ve decided to focus our attention on making the Disney Movie Insiders website the most streamlined experience for our members as possible. While the Disney Movie Insiders app is closed, you can rest assured that our website is available on mobile devices, so your reward earning opportunities will not be interrupted – no matter where you are!

Members of the “Disney Movie Insider” app have also been receiving emails informing them of the change, which include:

  • Points for all movie format ticket purchases will be the same. Additional Points for premium format ticket purchases will no longer be available.  You can earn 100 points for each ticket to an eligible movie screening. As of September 1, 2023, all theatrical formats are eligible for 100 points, including those considered premium.
  • Enrollees will be able to earn a maximum of 1,200 Points per month per account through the manual ticket submission process (an increase from the 500 Points under the prior Terms and Conditions).

Disney Movie Insiders is a loyalty program that runs in the United States and Canada, that rewards you for being a fan of Disney, Marvel Studios, Star Wars, and Pixar movies. You can earn points, redeem rewards, and access exclusive content such as free posters, DVDs and merchandise.   You can get points by registering cinema tickets, buying movies in digital/physical formats, and linking your account to your Disney+ account.

Users of the app have been complaining about it being buggy and difficult to use for a while, so it looks like Disney has just decided the app isn’t worth investing any more money.  No reason for the closure of the Disney Movie Insiders app has been announced, but it’s likely to be part of a continued effort to reduce costs as Disney looks to save $5 billion in costs.  Disney has also recently started making other changes to its home media offerings, including closing the Disney Movie Club in Canada and stopping physical media in Australia.
