Disney Reveals “Bluey: The Movie” Release Date
Disney has announced some new details on its upcoming animated feature-length “Bluey” movie, which is being created in partnership with BBC Studios and Ludo Studio.
No plot details for the upcoming film have been announced, but it will feature the return of voice talent Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Mum (Chilli) and Dad (Bandit). The movie marks the big-screen debut of the beloved blue heeler and her family, bringing the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning series to life like never before.
Written and directed by “Bluey” creator Joe Brumm and produced by Ludo Studio in collaboration with BBC Studios, the CG-animated feature is produced by Amber Naismith (“Happy Feet,” “The LEGO Movie”) and co-directed by Richard Jeffery (Bluey, Series 1–3). Joe Brumm is the executive producer, alongside Justine Flynn for BBC Studios, with Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson from Ludo Studio. For Disney, the film will be overseen by David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, and his team.
BBC Studios is financing and licensing the picture with theatrical distribution through Walt Disney Studios. The film is being supported by the Australian government through the Producer Offset and Screen Australia, and support from the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Post, Digital and Visual Effects Incentive.
The new movie will be coming to cinemas on August 6th 2027, and we should expect it to be released on Disney+ a few months later.
While we wait for the new “Bluey” movie, the original animated series is also available to stream on Disney+. The show is 2024’s most-watched series globally on Disney+ (based on views). And also the most-streamed show in the first half of 2025 and the most-streamed show of 2024 in the U.S. (Nielsen). “Bluey” is also the No. 1 kids’ show on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK. The show has also garnered numerous awards, including a 2024 Peabody Award and back-to-back Television Critics Association Awards in 2023 and 2024.
Roger’s Take: “Bluey” has been a streaming juggernaut, and it makes total sense why the character is making the leap onto the big screen, which will no doubt go onto become a massive success at the box office, while also being extremely popular on streaming at a later date.
