Disney+ Original “The Muppets Mayhem” Cancelled After One Season But Creator Teases Other Projects
Following on from the cancellation of other Disney+ Original shows, “Big Shot”, “National Treasure: Edge Of History”, “Doogie Kamealoha MD”, “The Mysterious Benedict Society”, and “Willow”, we can now add “The Muppets Mayhem” to the list of shows that have been cancelled and won’t be returning for a second season.
“The Muppets Mayhem” follows The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora Singh (Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face-to-face with the current-day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album.
The series is based on characters created by Jim Henson, the Disney+ Original series from Disney Branded Television is produced by ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio.
The project was developed and written by executive producers Adam F. Goldberg (“The Goldbergs”), Bill Barretta (“The Muppets,” “Muppets Haunted Mansion”) and co-executive producer Jeff Yorkes.
“Muppets Mayhem” was recently nominated for 6 Emmys, including in the best children’s or family viewing series category.
And the show’s creator, Adam F.Goldberg took to social media to tease that they are working on another Muppets project.
Huge thanks to the critic & fan love that got us 6 Emmy noms and a #1 Billboard album. Mayhem was truly the most joyful and collaborative experience of my career. From day one all I’ve cared about is creating a Muppet-verse and YES I am already cooking up more Muppets with @billbarretta & @JeffYorkes ! IT’S HAPPENING!!!
When asked about the cancellation, Adam added:
The wheels are in motion!
Adam seems very upbeat over the cancellation, and maybe the show won’t be returning for a second season, because Disney has been happy with his work with the franchise to do a different Disney+ Original series or film.
The other executive producer, Jeff Yorkes, also took to social media to thank fans for watching the show:
What a long, strange trip it’s been! The highs (thanks Zoot!), the lows… A huge thank you to our loyal fans and viewers. I hope audiences continue to discover our little show and that it brings them some joy… and some Mayhem!! Rock on!!
Hopefully, “The Muppets Mayhem” won’t join other recently cancelled shows like “Big Shot” or “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”, which were removed from Disney+ as part of an impairment charge. With the series being part of a much larger established franchise and being enjoyed by many fans, it will remain on Disney+, where you can still find the show.
