It’s been revealed that the upcoming documentary film “Elton John: Never Too Late” will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which will take place from September 5th to September 15th, 2024.

The new documentary will show never-before-seen concert footage of him over the past 50 years, as well as hand-written journals and present-day footage of him and his family.  It will also focus on the final shows from Elton’s farewell tour, “Yellow Brick Road”.

The project was initially announced as part of a deal that also included the live performance of Elton’s “Yellow Brick Road” from the Dodger Stadium, which was his final North American show.  This new documentary has been directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish.

The documentary’s name refers to a song from the live-action version of Disney’s “The Lion King” but is also likely to refer to how Elton continued to work in his later years.

Currently, no Disney+ release date has been announced, but usually, with these types of events, a release date isn’t too far behind, so I could easily see the documentary arriving on Disney+ in late September or early October.

Roger’s Take: Disney+ has been on a roll with the number of music documentaries it has been releasing lately, and I’m sure this one will be another great addition.  Personally, I’m also interested in watching this documentary as I was lucky enough to get to see one of his shows on the “Yellow Brick Road” tour, as I’ve been a huge fan of Elton for decades, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity, to see him live finally and unfortunately for the final time (plus he was coming close to where I live, so it was a no-brainer to go!)

While we wait for the new documentary, you can watch “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium” on Disney+ now.
