Disney Movie Insider Program To Close
Disney has announced that, after 18 years, it will close its Disney Movie Insider program and sunset it on December 4th, 2024.
This program offers fans of Disney, Marvel Studios, Star Wars, and Pixar movies access to special rewards like posters, movies, pins, Funko Pops, Disney+ subscriptions, and much more.
Members could earn reward points for buying tickets for watching movies at cinemas, buying movies (digital and physical) and for being subscribed to Disney+.
Disney said in a statement regarding the closure:
Our members’ passion for content across The Walt Disney Studios has always been at the heart of our program. We are incredibly grateful for your participation in the program and enthusiasm over the years. Over the coming weeks, we encourage you to redeem your points for rewards from our collection. Points can continue to be used on a variety of offerings, including posters, movies, Disney Gift Cards, sweepstakes, and more. We greatly appreciate your loyalty, support and understanding.
With the program closing down, Disney is going to be reducing the amount of rewards available to redeem points against as items are limited in quantity and will only be available while supplies.
Members must spend all their points before the program closes on December 3rd, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT. Any unspent points will be forfeited upon the program closure.
Roger’s Take: This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as Disney has already closed down the program in Canada and is slowly retreating from the home media market, as fewer people are buying DVDs. Disney has been trying to reduce costs and this program was created in a different era. The focus seems to be moving towards the new Disney+ Perks program, which makes sense, considering more people are watching movies via streaming than buying discs. If you are a member, it’ll be a good idea to jump into your account to spend your points before it closes.
