Disney+ Greenlights “World War Shoe: Adidas vs. Puma” Series
At the Edinburgh TV Festival, Disney announced that it has greenlight “World War Shoe: Adidas vs. Puma (w/t)”, a thrilling three-part documentary series from Emmy-nominated Matador Content (“Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields”, “BS High”), a Boat Rocker company, and David Beckham’s Studio 99 (“Fever Pitch”, “Save Our Squad”). It explores the inner workings of two of the biggest sporting brands in the world, with a unique shared history and rivalry.
Through unprecedented access to both companies, the series will uncover the unlikely and surprising tale of two feuding brothers – Adi and Rudi Dassler – whose multi-decade rivalry and competition helped shape the modern sportswear industry. From starting in the quaint German village of Herzogenaurach, to becoming global super brands through partnerships with the biggest names in sport, music, fashion, “World War Shoe: Adidas vs. Puma (w/t)” will explore how these juggernaut sportswear companies changed an industry and influenced sports and popular culture. The series will reveal the often surprising extent of the competition between these two companies over time, and how that rivalry drove innovation and global expansion, and ultimately allowed room for the emergence of Nike.
“World War Show: Adidas vs. Puma (w/t)” sees contributions from some of the biggest sports stars in the world including Usain Bolt, Neymar and Zinedine Zidane, to some of the biggest names in fashion, including June Ambrose and KidSuper.
At the event, Sean Doyle, Director, Unscripted, Disney+, EMEA, said:
“We’ve spent the past year making ambitious documentaries with exclusive access to A-list names with the best creative talent in the business. It’s been great to see the reactions to Finding Michael and Save Our Squad with David Beckham and I can’t wait for audiences to see what else we’ve been up to and discover stories they may not expect to see on Disney+.”
“World War Show: Adidas vs. Puma (w/t)” is produced by Matador Content, a Boat Rocker company, and Studio 99, with David Beckham as Executive Producer. It is directed by Oliver Clark & Blair Macdonald, produced by Josef Kaplicky and James Davidson, and Executive Produced by Jack Turner, Nicola Howson, Morgan Fallon, Jay Peterson and Todd Lu.
