Disney+ Faces High-Stakes Lawsuit Over “Say Nothing” Series

Late last year, Disney’s FX released a limited series called “Say Nothing” on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ around the world.

The show tells the gripping story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. The 9-episode series is based on the book by Patrick Radden Keefe.

Spanning four decades, Say Nothing explores the tumultuous period in Northern Ireland known as The Troubles. The series launches with the shocking disappearance of Jean McConville, a single mother of ten who was abducted from her home in 1972 and never seen alive again. But McConville was only one of many others who became known collectively as The Disappeared.

Through the eyes of various IRA members, including sisters Dolours and Marian Price – young women who transformed into magnetic symbols of radical politics, Brendan Hughes – a tight-lipped but conflicted military strategist, and Gerry Adams – a savvy political operator who would go on to negotiate peace but ultimately deny his involvement with the IRA, “Say Nothing” unpacks the extremes some people will go to within a civil rights movement as they pursue their ideals, the mystery surrounding The Disappeared, the cost of silence, and the way society mends – or doesn’t – after a long and bloody conflict.

Earlier this month, on July 2nd 2025, Marian Price filed a complaint in the Dublin High Court, suing Disney and Minim UK Productions Limited for defamation for how the show falsely portrays her as having carried out the execution-style murder of Jean McConville by shooting her in the back of the head.

She is asking for damages and from further publishing the same or similar defamatory statements, along with removing the execution scene in the final. Her solicitors previously said it was “not based on a single iota of evidence”.

Phoenix Law have stated that “Both entities have failed to take steps to rectify their actions, causing continuing and untold damage and harm to our client.”

They also stated that “There is no justification for making abhorrent accusations under the guise of entertainment and we will be seeking to hold all responsible parties to account.”

Price has denied the allegations and threatened to sue Disney just a few weeks after the show came out. She had previously been convicted of the IRA car bomb attack on the Old Bailey in London in 1973, and in 2024, she was given a suspended jail sentence for assisting the dissident republican group the Real IRA.

“Say Nothing” is available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ in the United Kingdom and other countries around the world.
