As part of Disney’s continued efforts to improve its streaming service, Disney+, new features are constantly being added or adjusted. This week, Disney+ has added a brand new “Coming Soon” collection to the platform, providing an easy and quick place for subscribers to take a look at what’s coming to Disney+ in the weeks and months ahead.

The new Coming Soon section can be found in the “All Collections” area on the Search hub on Disney+ in many countries around the world.  Currently, this feature isn’t available on Disney+ in the United States, but hopefully, it won’t be too long until it does, though its slightly more complicated due to the Hulu and ESPN bundle.

This new Coming Soon section includes a row of brand new titles that are set to arrive on Disney+ soon, plus another row of existing shows that have been confirmed to be getting further seasons.

Also included in the new area is a row of titles with new episodes released each week, making it a little easier for users to see what’s new on the platform. However, it would be nice if Disney+ utilised a similar function to other streaming services, with a little box on the homepage indicating that a new episode is available.  In addition, there is a What’s New row showcasing some of the recent additions that people might have missed.

It should also be noted that it seems that Disney has now moved the “Coming Soon” row away from the homepage to this new area and added the “Coming Soon” collection within the “More To Explore” area, making it slightly easier to users to find this new feature.

There is also a row dedicated to upcoming major releases with trailers and first look featurettes for new films and shows coming out later this year, especially those hitting cinemas later this year.

Here’s a look at the new “Coming Soon” section on Disney+:

Roger’s Take:  Over five years after the launch of Disney+, we are still getting small tweaks and adjustments to make it easier for subscribers to see what’s coming soon to the platform. It’s just a shame it’s taken so long.  One of the biggest problems with Disney, especially internationally, is its scheduling system is so complicated due to so many different studios and divisions like FX, ABC, Disney Channel, National Geographic and Hulu, still focusing purely on the United States, that the international releases aren’t sometimes confirmed until much later, or simply an afterthought, especially with titles released on linear channels first.   Unlike Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, which only release titles globally at the same time, Disney is still constricted by its linear past, and I don’t think this new “Coming Soon” area will be fully utilised for years to come.
