Disney+ Adds ABC News Shows, Specials & Series
Last year, Disney+ launched a brand new “Streams” feature in the United States, which offered a ABC News Live, a 24/7 multi-award winning, premium streaming news channel for live newscasts, breaking news, live events and in-depth special reports.
At Disney’s Upfront event in New York, it was announced that ABC News content will be available to all Disney+ subscribers in the United States, offering a selection of the latest award-winning shows, including:
- Good Morning America
- Nightline
- This Week with George Stephanopoulos
- Impact x Nightline
- World News Tonight with David Muir
- Prime With Linsey Davis
- 20/20
Previously, these shows were available on Disney+ to Hulu subscribers via Hulu On Disney+, but Disney has decided to expand its offering of news content to reach as many as people as possible. Unfortunately, these shows are still only available to Disney+ subscribers in the US.
You’ll find all of these news shows available on the Disney+ homepage in the ABC News Row.
Roger’s Take: The blurring of the lines between Hulu and Disney+ continues with the introduction of ABC News content. These additions make sense for many reasons, since they boost the daily content being added onto Disney+, and since these shows were also airing on the ABC News Live stream, it seems logical to also make them available for on-demand users. It also continues to make Disney+ more of a general entertainment streaming service, having content for everyone but also offering something that other streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime don’t provide.
