Disney has announced that the special fan event, “Destination D23”, will be returning in 2023 and will be taking place at Disney’s Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World from Friday, 8th September 2023 through to Sunday, 10th September 2023.

This event will celebrate 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. With fans will be among the first to hear exciting announcements and see sneak peeks from the many worlds of Disney—and relive favourite memories with behind-the-scenes stories, special guests, and so much more at this epic event.

The “Destination D23” event is a smaller biennial event that alternates with the “D23 Expo” event, which takes place in Anaheim, California. The event has been running since 2010, and during the 2021 event, there were a number of special Disney+ events, including a Disney+ Download panel featuring a live interview with “Diary of a Wimpy Kid’s” author and illustrator Jeff Kinney, a 10-minute preview of “Welcome to Earth”, and a preview of the “Muppets Haunted Mansion” special.  There was also a Disney+ Party and a special early screening of “Encanto” at the AMC theatre in Disney Springs.  The Disney+ Download presentation was also live-streamed onto YouTube, but not everything from the event was shown during the Livestream.

One interesting aspect to this year’s “Destination D23” event, is that it’s taking place on the same weekend as the “D23 Expo” in 2022, which also happened to be Disney+ Day.  Could Disney+ Day take place around the same time as the “Destination D23” event, so that Walt Disney World can once again be lit up blue to represent Disney+ and with special fan activations throughout the weekend?

It is important to note, that the “Destination D23” events are much smaller than the D23 Expo, so I wouldn’t expect massive studio panels with lots of announcements and trailers.  This event is more for die-hard Disney fans and is very much more focused on Walt Disney World.

No ticket details have yet been announced, but hopefully, this will be revealed soon.
