Destin Daniel Cretton In Talks To Direct Next Marvel “Spider-Man” Movie
There has been much speculation about the next Spider-Man movie following the success of Tom Holland’s trilogy, which includes “Homecoming,” “Far From Home,” and “No Way Home.”
According to Deadline, Destin Daniel Cretton is in early talks to direct the next instalment in the franchise; though it’s important to note that no deal has been signed, he is the top choice to direct.
Destin Daniel Cretton has already had some experience working with Marvel Studios, having previously directed ” Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and has an overall deal with Marvel, where he is one of the directors on the upcoming Disney+ series, “Wonder Man”. He was also one of the creators of the Disney+ Original series, “American Born Chinese”.
Up until recently, Destin had been scheduled to direct the next “Avengers” movie, when it was still called “Avengers: Kang Dynasty”, which was recently revealed to be completely changed to “Avengers: Doomsday”. It’s likely that should Destin take over the directing duties for the next Spider-Man film, that we probably won’t see him working on a sequel to “Shang-Chi” for a while.
Marvel and Sony haven’t yet finalised a deal with Tom Holland or Zendaya, but both stars have been in touch with executives and producers about the project. A new deal is expected to be reached soon.
Both Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will be returning as producers on the upcoming “Spider-Man” film.
No plot details or release date for the next “Spider-Man” film have been revealed.
Roger’s Take: Destin did a fantastic job on “Shang-Chi”, so taking over the reins of “Spider-Man” feels in safe hands and shifting from directing an “Avengers” movie to taking over “Spider-Man”, almost feels like an upgrade, since Spidey is one of the most popular superhero characters of all time. The only downside is this will likely mean “Shang-Chi 2” might be on the back burner for a little longer, though hopefully, we will see the character pop up in both “Avengers” movies.
