Deaf & Native American Actress Wanted For A Disney+ Series
A new casting call for an upcoming Disney+ Original series, is looking for a actress to play the role of a character with the following description.
Malia – Female, 20’s, Deaf, Native American, First Nations, Indigenous and/or Latinx. Independent, athletic & bright. Lead. Seeing ages 18+ to play a character in her 20’s.
The actress will be required to perform an audition scene in American Sign Language. The project is looking to start filming in the Fall.
Deaf actor Nyle DiMarco shared the details on the casting on his Instagram account.
There are a few different shows that this character could be from, including a Marvel character called Echo aka Maya Lopez, who is both a Native American and deaf. This casting could be likely to be a character for upcoming Hawkeye Disney+ series, which is due to be filming this Fall.
It also could also be a character for another new series called “Life & Deaf”. It’s a new show that is based on the life of Jack Jason, who is the long-time interpreter of deaf actress, Marlee Matlin, who will also be starring in the series. It tells the story of a kid growing up in the ‘70s with deaf parents — and the mischief that ensues when, as their ears and mouthpiece, he is given the “keys to the kingdom.
