Over the past few months, Marvel Studios has been filming the third instalment in the “Deadpool” franchise, which will see Ryan Reynolds return as the Merc with a Mouth, along with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine.

Production has been taking place in the United Kingdom, and only earlier this week, some images were released showing Deadpool and Wolverine in action. However, following the news that SAG-AFTRA has gone on strike today, Variety has confirmed that filming on “Deadpool 3” has now been suspended until the actor’s strike is over.   This is the first major production to be impacted by the new strike, since many productions, such as “Daredevil: Born Again”, have previously been suspended due to the writer’s strike.

The film is going to have a huge amount of actors from previous Marvel films, that are outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that will be returning to our screens, including Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli KutsunaKaran Soni, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Jennifer Garner, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic. This is in addition to the film starring “The Crown‘s” Emma Corrin and “Succession‘s” Matthew Macfadyen.

Shawn Levy will be directing “Deadpool 3”, and it has been written by Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will be a producer on the film, along with Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds.

“Deadpool 3” is currently scheduled to be released on May 3rd, 2024, and it will be the first rated-R film from Marvel Studios. However, depending on how long the writer’s and actors’ strikes last, this release date could be at risk of being missed and the entire Marvel Studios schedule is once again adjusted.

While we wait for the new film, the first two “Deadpool” films and “Logan” are available to stream now on Disney+.
