Earlier this summer, Marvel Studios was filming the third instalment in the “Deadpool” franchise in the United Kingdom, which will see Ryan Reynolds return as the Merc with a Mouth, along with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. Also starring in the film will be “The Crown‘s” Emma Corrin and “Succession‘s” Matthew Macfadyen, along with the returning Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Jennifer Garner, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic.

However, once the actor’s strike started, filming was suspended and won’t restart until the actor’s strike is over, but with the studios recently walking away from talks with the SAG-AFTRA following a demand by the actors’ union for 2% of streaming services revenue.

“Deadpool 3” is due to be released in cinemas on the 3rd of May 2024, so getting filming resumed is a high priority for Disney and Marvel Studios.  Should the actor’s strike continue much longer, we will likely see the film bumped back to a later release date.

Recently, “Deadpool 3” director Shawn Levy spoke with The Wrap to promote his upcoming limited Netflix series “All the Light We Cannot See,” and confirmed that he’s already shot and edited half the film.

“I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. I know we were gonna be May 3.  Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”

Last month, Shawn Levy attended an NFL game between Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets game with “Deadpool 3” stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackson, along with Taylor Swift, which sparked rumours that the pop star could star in the upcoming film as Dazzler, which Shawn was asked about:

“They sure are loud.  I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy. That’s Taylor-related. And it’s MCU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”

Hopefully, the actor’s strike will be resolved soon, so filming can resume on “Deadpool 3”, but the longer it goes on, the much more likely that the release date is pushed back, which will likely have a knock-on impact on the rest of the Marvel Studios schedule.

While we wait for the new film, the first two “Deadpool” films and “Logan” are available to stream now on Disney+.
