Dave Filoni Provides An Update On “Star Wars: Ahsoka” Season Two
Last year, Lucasfilm released the first season of “Ahsoka.” Set after the fall of the Empire, it follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
And earlier this year after the release of the season finale, it was confirmed that the show would be returning for a second season.
Recently, during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the show’s creator, Dave Filoni, who is the head writer and executive producer on the series, gave an update on the second season:
“Because I’ve been writing [Ahsoka Season 2], things have clicked and I have a much better idea about where things are going to go. I will say, I have an opening I really like quite a bit, I’m very excited about it for that picture. I’m excited about the potential of just doing it … Right now, my focus is clearly on [Ahsoka] as well as the rest of the galaxy and how it’s spinning,”
During the same interview, Dave revealed that he has also been working on the upcoming movie, “The Mandalorian & Grogu ” with Jon Favreau and that it’s been “fun to dive into” and they are currently putting “one foot in front of the other” when it comes to their lineup of projects.
Following a reevaluation of the company as a whole, Disney has been making major changes to its studio output, reducing how many movies and shows it releases, especially from major franchises like Star Wars and Marvel, to not just reduce costs but to deal with franchise fatigue and improve the quality of the upcoming releases.
“Ahsoka” stars Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ray Stevenson, Ivanna Sakhno, Diana Lee Inosanto, David Tennant, Lars Mikkelsen and Eman Esfandi. The episodes are directed by Dave Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa. Other executive producers on “Ahsoka” include Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist serves as co-executive producer.
There currently hasn’t been any update on when we are likely to see a second season of “Ahsoka” arrive on Disney+ and it’s likely to still be a year or so away. In 2025, Disney will be releasing the second season of “Andor”, but with the drastic reduction in production, it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t see the second season of “Ahsoka” until at least 2026.
