Disney has announced that the hit competition series, “Dancing With The Stars” has been renewed for a 34th season and it will air once again live on both ABC and Disney+ in the United States, and episodes will also be available to stream the next day on Hulu.

Produced in front of a live audience by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions, the hit series pairs celebrities with trained ballroom dancers to compete in themed, choreographed dance routines that are judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts.

Disney has also announced the first celebrity cast member to take part in the competition, which will be Wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin, who is the son of the late Steve Irwin. Robert’s sister, Bindi Irwin, took home the Mirrorball Trophy in the 21st season alongside her partner, Derek Hough.

The full cast of celebrities and pro dancers will be announced at a later date.   It hasn’t been confirmed who will be hosting the new season, the recent season was hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough.

Season 33 of “Dancing with the Stars” ranked No. 1 this past fall among Adults 18-49 in Live+Same Day viewing, marking the first time the series ranked No. 1 for the broadcast season in L+SD in its history. The show also attracted younger viewers in season 33, earning the show’s best Adults 18-34 ratings in four years. The spectacular season culminated with the highest Total Viewer audience (7.95 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.55 rating) in over three years. After breaking several voting records throughout the season, the finale also set another record with over 32 million votes cast for the teams.

Roger’s Take: It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see “Dancing With The Stars” returning as it’s always a popular show, especially as it airs live on both linear television and Disney+ at the same time, reaching a larger audience.  It’s also great to see Robert Irwin on the screen, as his personality is fantastic and I’m sure he’ll give it his all, but he has some big shoes to fill in after his sister won the competition.
