Disney has announced a brand new documentary from National Geographic called “Clotilda: The Return Home”, which chronicles the account of two survivors of the last American slave ship, Cudjo Lewis and Gumpa Lee, who dreamed of returning to their ancestral home over 150 years ago.

Today, their descendants are fulfilling that dream and National Geographic Explorer Tara Roberts, whose work shines a light on the origin stories of Africans in the Americas, joins them on this once-in-a-lifetime journey.

“Clotilda: The Return Home” will premiere on the National Geographic on June 17th 2024 at 9/8c, and it will be available the next day on Hulu and Disney+.  No international release details have been announced yet.

If you want to learn a little more about the Clotilda before the new documentary arrives, there is also another National Geographic documentary about the ship on Disney+.
