The first season of the Disney+ Original series, “Big Shot,” will be getting its first linear outing later this week in the United States, when the show will air on Freeform on New Year’s Eve.

“Big Shot” centers around Marvyn Korn (Stamos) after he is ousted from his position as head coach for an NCAA basketball team. He is given a chance at redemption with a coaching position at Westbrook, an elite private high school for girls and soon learns that the teenage players require empathy and vulnerability – foreign concepts for the stoic Coach Korn. By learning to connect with his players and his daughter, Marvyn starts to grow into the person he’s always hoped to be. The girls learn to take themselves more seriously, finding their footing both on and off the court.

Series regulars include John Stamos, Jessalyn Gilsig, Richard Robichaux, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Tiana Le, Monique Green, Tisha Eve Custodio, Cricket Wampler and Yvette Nicole Brown. Created and Executive Produced by David E. Kelley, Dean Lorey and Brad Garrett; Bill D’Elia also serves as Executive Producer. The series is a Disney+ Original produced by ABC Signature.

The show will air from 1 pm on New Year’s Eve, 31st December 2022, and all ten episodes will be broadcast back to back.

With “Big Shot” being released on linear television, the recent trend of Disney+ Originals being released on linear networks continues, after a limited period of exclusivity on the streaming platform.   This makes sense for a variety of reasons. It gives the linear networks new original programming at a much lower cost.  It offsets some of the production costs from the streaming division, along with allowing more people to see the show, gain additional advertising revenue and could encourage more linear viewers to sign up for Disney+ in the future.

The first two seasons of “Big Shot” are available to stream now on Disney+.
