Last year, Disney removed over a hundred original films and shows from its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu, as part of “a content impairment charge of $1.5 billion to $1.8 billion.    Some of the shows removed from Disney+ included “Willow”, “Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” and “The Mysterious Benedict Society”.

One of those shows removed was “Big Shot”, which told the story of a hothead men’s basketball coach, who, after getting ousted from the NCAA, had to take a job at an all-girls high school. He soon learns that teenage girls are more than just X’s and O’s; they require empathy and vulnerability – foreign concepts for the stoic Coach Korn. By learning how to connect with his players, Marvyn starts to grow into the person he’s always hoped to be. The girls learn to take themselves more seriously, finding their footing both on and off the court.

The series starred John Stamos, along with Jessalyn Gilsig, Richard Robichaux, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Tiana Le, Monique Green, Tisha Eve Custodio, Cricket Wampler and Yvette Nicole Brown.

One of the show’s executive producers, Dean Lorey, spoke with The Direct to promote his new Max series “Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!”, revealing his thoughts on his show, “Big Shot” no longer being available to Disney+ subscribers.

“Well, I hated it. You know, we liked the show. We wanted people to be able to continue watching it. So it’s really kind of a bummer that people can’t. I know that they have reasons for it. But I sure wish that it was available to watch. I mean, I guess I feel like anybody would.”

Roger’s Take: While I understand why Disney removed all of those originals ($2 billion is a lot of money!), “Big Shot” was one of my favourites, and I’d love to see it re-released to Disney+ at some point in the future so more people can enjoy it.    Sadly, it’s unlikely we will see it re-released, and while we’ve not seen as many titles removed from Disney+ and Hulu to save money, it’s now a continuous problem within the streaming industry.
