Bette Midler Reveals Update On “Hocus Pocus 3”
Back in 2022, Disney released the sequel to the cult classic, “Hocus Pocus” on Disney+ around the world, which saw the return of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson Sisters, who are a trio of witches who are resurrected from the 17th century to cause havoc in modern-day Salem.
The sequel went on to become Disney+’s most-watched original film, with 2.7 billion minutes watched in its first weekend.
Since then, there has been lots of discussion about a potential third film in the franchise, with the former president of Walt Disney Pictures, Sean Bailey, revealing that “‘Hocus Pocus 3’ is happening” and last year, Bette Midler revealed on a QVC+ talk show “Busy This Week,” that work was underway on a third film:
“I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings. I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”
This past weekend, Bette Midler appeared on the “Watch What Happens Live,” and shared that the “Hocus Pocus 3” producers are currently ironing out “all the those logistical things” before shooting begins. In the interview, she also revealed that she recently read an early draft of the script:
“Well, you know, they sent a script, and a lot of it was brilliant. So I got very excited, and now we’re trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost and all those logistical things.”
The first two “Hocus Pocus” movies are available to stream on Disney+.
Roger’s Take: It certainly looks like Disney is trying to get this project together, but they will also need to get a wriggle on, as Bette Midler is turning eighty later this year. While the sequel was a massive hit on Disney+, I suspect they will release the third movie in cinemas for a limited time to get more money to help offset some of the costs, since Disney has become less likely to release movies directly onto Disney+.
