Disney’s ABC has ordered a pilot for a new drama called “RJ Decker”, which is based on the novel, “Double Whammy” by Carl Hiaasen.

The pilot tells the story of RJ Decker, a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida, tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a shadowy new benefactor, a woman from his past who could be his greatest ally … or his one-way ticket back to prison.

According to Deadline, the project has been created by Rob Doherty, who previously created “Elementary” and will be directed by Paul McGuigan, who has previously directed “Will Trent”. They will both be executive producers on the project along with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman of Timberman-Beverly Productions, who also previously worked with Rob with “Elementary”.

20th Television is going to be the studio behind the show, so should the pilot get the go ahead to become a full series, expect it to be released on the ABC channel, along with Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world. This is first pilot that has been greenlight so far this year from ABC.
