Disney’s ABC is currently developing a pilot for a US adaptation of the British comedy, “Motherland”. The original series focuses on middle-class parents and the everyday challenges they encounter. From the competitiveness of the morning school run, to the sheer pandemonium of hosting a children’s party, `Motherland’ gives an honest and amusing depiction of life as a modern-day mother or father to small kids. Armed with their own individual parenting techniques, the leading characters try their best to carry out their responsibilities calmly, tackling each humour-filled situation as it arises.

According to Deadline, ABC is in negotiations with Ellie Kemper to star in the show. Ellie has previously starred in “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and the US version of “The Office”. Also set to star in the new adaptation is Karan Soni, who has previously starred in “Deadpool”.

The new US version of “Motherland is being written by Julieanne Smolinski, Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford’s Merman Television, Paul Feig’s Feigco Entertainment, Lionsgate and ABC Signature. Michael Showalter has been brought in to direct the pilot, he has previously directed “The Big Sick”. They will all be executive producers, along with Stacy Greenberg and Kira Carstensen for Merman Television, and Dan Magnante for Feigco Entertainment as well as Holly Walsh and Helen Serafinowicz.

Should this pilot get picked up for a full series, it’ll likely be released on ABC and Hulu in the US, and potentially as a Star Original around the world.
