What I’m Watching On Disney+ Before Visiting Walt Disney World

“I’m Going To Disney World” is one of the most iconic sayings, and this month, I’m lucky enough to be heading there on vacation and ahead of my trip, I wanted to do some training to get ready for my trip, not just physically by walking the dog longer every day and taking up golf, but refreshing my memory of some of the iconic franchises that inspired new attractions that I want to experience.

Here are the five movies I’ve watched on Disney+ to prepare for my trip to Walt Disney World:

5) Tron

A brand new Tron-themed rollercoaster was added to the Magic Kingdom in 2023, and while I’ve been lucky enough to ride on the version at Shanghai Disneyland, I’m really looking forward to checking out the US version, especially having recently watched “Tron: Ares” when it arrived on Disney+.  But before I go back to the grid, I’m going to rewatch “Tron: Legacy” ahead of my trip, mainly for the awesome score by Daft Punk.

The film lets viewers immerse themselves in the high-tech digital world of TRON: Legacy, as Jeff Bridges stars in a revolutionary visual effects adventure beyond imagination. When Flynn, the world’s greatest video game creator, sends out a secret signal from an amazing digital realm, his son discovers the clue and embarks on a personal journey to save his long-lost father. With the help of the fearless female warrior Quorra, father and son venture through an incredible cyber universe, take on a rogue hacking program and wage the ultimate battle of good versus evil.

4) Guardians Of The Galaxy

One of the biggest new additions to Walt Disney World in the past few years is the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” themed attraction at Epcot, and to get myself in the groove for the classic rock songs, I’m going to be going back to the original film to refresh my memory of these fantastic characters.

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits: Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

3) Star Wars

With the addition of an entire themed area based on the iconic Star Wars franchise since my last visit to Walt Disney World and the upcoming release of “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, I’m getting myself warmed up for both of these by going back and rewatching “The Mandalorian” series.

2) The Princess And The Frog

With the Splash Mountain attraction getting a makeover to the classic animated film, “The Princess And The Frog”, I’m kinda thinking that I could do with refreshing my memory on this film, since I’ve only seen it once before.

A modern twist on a classic tale features a beautiful girl named Tiana who dreams of owning her own restaurant. When she meets a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, a fateful kiss leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana…with the villainous voodoo magician Dr. Facilier in hot pursuit.

1) Avatar

Without doubt, one of my favourite places in Walt Disney World on my last visit was Pandora, a whole themed area that is based on the “Avatar” franchise, and honestly, I don’t need any excuse to go back and rewatch these films.

“Avatar” takes us to the amazing world of Pandora, where a man embarks on an epic journey of adventure and love, ultimately fighting to save the unique place he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of Titanic, delivers an immersive cinematic experience, where revolutionary technology meets engaging characters in a timeless, emotional story.
