Alan Carr To Star In New Disney+ Original “Castle Man”
Disney+ is continuing to build out its British original lineup with a brand new series starring Alan Carr, which is currently going by the working title of “Castle Man”.
The new series features comedian and TV presenter Alan Carr, who previously hosted his own chat show, “Chatty Man,” (which is what the Disney+ show name plays on) and recently won the latest season of “The Celebrity Traitors”.
With Alan’s 50th birthday fast approaching, he finds himself at a moment of reckoning, taking stock of where he is and where he wants to be. He has long dreamed of owning a grand château, but after a transformative and iconic stay at The Traitor’s castle, that fantasy will now become a reality – or will it? He doesn’t just want to visit a castle, he wants to build a life in one, a leap of faith driven entirely by Alan himself.
Alan said in a statement regarding the new show:
“Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle. Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home and as I turn fifty, I feel it’s my time. All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge!”
Sean Doyle, vp, unscripted, EMEA added:
“We’ve watched him turn his hand to stand-up, gameshows, podcast, and presenting, but when we discovered he was looking to purchase a castle to run, we knew this was a journey we had to follow. Expect Alan in new territory, with all the same riotous entertainment you know and love”.
“Castle Man” will begin filming in Scotland on Thursday and is being created by Expectation, which is the production team behind “Clarkson’s Farm” and “Alma’s Not Normal”. Co-CEO Peter Fincham, Ben Wicks, Claire Walls, and Danny Julian are executive producing. Carr also serves as executive producer. The series was commissioned out of the UK for Disney+ by Angela Jain, head of content, and Sean Doyle, vp, unscripted, EMEA.
Roger’s Take: Alan Carr is one of the most beloved national treasures in the UK, especially after his appearance on the “Celebrity Traitors”, which was the most popular show of last year. So Disney+ snapping him up for a new original series is perfect. I’m a big fan of Alan Carr, having seen him live doing standup before (and I’ve already got tickets for his next tour), so this sounds like a fantastic partnership. As with any project in development, its unclear how long it’ll be until it drops onto Disney+, but hopefully it won’t be too long.
