Marvel’s “X-Men ’97” Renewed For A Third Season
This weekend, Disney hosted a panel at the New York Comic Con for its upcoming Marvel Disney+ shows, and new details have been revealed regarding the future of the hit animated series, “X-Men ’97”.
The show revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.
It has been confirmed that the second season of “X-Men ’97” will be available on Disney+ in the summer of 2026, and a third season is also currently in development.
Head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation Brad Winderbaum took to the stage and was joined by Eric and Julia Lewald, the writers who originally created “X-Men: The Animated Series”. He announced that the Lewalds, along with original series director Larry Houston, have joined “X-Men ‘97” Season 2 as executive producers. They talked about what fans can expect from the upcoming season and shared footage from the upcoming second season.
The voice cast of the show includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
The original “X-Men” animated series and the first season of “X-Men ’97” are available to stream on Disney+.
Roger’s Take: It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to hear that a third season of “X-Men ’97” is happening, as many of the cast of the show have been publicly talking about it on social media and at events, so it’s great to get confirmation. Marvel wants the show to be an annual release on Disney+, so expect to see the third season drop in 2027. However, with “Secret Wars” closing up the multiverse saga, I would be surprised if we get a fourth season.
