“Mid-Century Modern” Cancelled After One Season
Earlier this year, Disney released a brand-new comedy series called “Mid-Century Modern” on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
“Mid-Century Modern” follows three best friends – gay gentlemen of a certain age – who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs, where the wealthiest one lives with his mother. As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done.
Unfortunately, the show wasn’t able to capture a big enough audience, and it’s been revealed by the show’s executive producer, Max Mutchnick on social media that the show has been cancelled after one season.
Ten great episodes… Not enough. But we loved making every single one of them. We’re gonna miss our very special show. Thanks to everyone who watched.
The show starred Nathan Lane as Bunny Schneiderman, Matt Bomer as Jerry Frank, Nathan Lee Graham as Arthur Broussard and Linda Lavin as Sybil Schneiderman, Bunny’s mother. The series was executive produced by Max Mutchnick, David Kohan and Ryan Murphy. 20th Television was the studio behind the show.
Currently, “Mid-Century Modern” is available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world. However, if you’ve not seen the show, still have a few episodes to watch or want to rewatch it, I’d suggest doing so as soon as possible, as Disney does have a tendency to remove shows cancelled in their first season from their streaming services.
Roger’s Take: It’s a shame that “Mid-Century Modern” didn’t pull in more viewers, as there aren’t enough sitcoms around at the moment. But I also can’t help but feel like Disney threw it out onto Hulu with very little publicity, and they could have done more to promote the show, such as putting it on linear channels and running a better social media campaign to reach a bigger audience.
