“Memphis To The Mountain” Trailer Released

Disney has released a trailer for the upcoming documentary series, “Memphis to the Mountain”, which is coming to Hulu and Disney+ later this week.  The documentary tells the story of a group of young climbers set out to scale a 16,000-ft rock tower on Mt. Kenya—defying the limits of their world and themselves, and confronting thin air, raw fear, and the climb toward self-discovery.

The project was inspired by and born from Memphis Rox, a nonprofit climbing gym and community center founded by Tom Shadyac and Chris Dean, which has served as a beacon of hope and opportunity in South Memphis. Known as one of the most underserved communities in the country, South Memphis is a neighborhood with deep roots in Black American history and culture—home to Stax Records, the birthplace of Aretha Franklin, and the final pulpit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., where he delivered his iconic “Mountaintop” speech the day before his assassination.

“Memphis to the Mountain” captures a bold, cinematic expedition in which a handful of young climbers from Memphis Rox embark on a life-changing journey—leaving behind daily adversity to scale new literal and metaphorical heights in the world of elite mountaineering.

VP and head of Andscape Jason Aidoo says in a statement regarding the new documentary:

“Memphis to the Mountain is a celebration of what happens when you pour into a community and then watch it rise.  This story reminds us that greatness is already within these neighborhoods, waiting to be unleashed. Andscape is honored to share this deeply moving journey with audiences, and hopes it inspires others to tackle the challenges in front of them.”

The show’s director, Tom Shadyac, added:

“When we founded Memphis Rox, it wasn’t just about climbing — it was about standing with, and learning from, a community that is all-too often looked over, yet pulsing with promise. Memphis to the Mountain is proof of the transformative process that occurs when young people are able to reach beyond their circumstances, immerse themselves in nature’s beauty and brutality, and thereby discover the infinite potential that lies within.”

“Memphis to the Mountain” will be released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States on Friday 5th September 2025.  The film will also be coming to Disney+ internationally, with a Australia/New Zealand release confirmed, so it’ll likely be a global release like other Andscape releases.
