“Bluey” Continues To Pull In Viewers For Disney+ On The Nielsen Gauge Chart
Nielsen has released its latest “Gauge” data update for July 2025, which gives a broad overview of how Americans watch television, including linear and streaming services like Disney+ and Hulu.
According to the latest Nielsen report, more and more people are using streaming as their main way of consuming entertainment on their televisions, hitting 47.3% and that is likely to continue to rise month on month, as more people ditch cable and go all in on streaming.
Disney has been losing some of its momentum over the summer, and this is likely to start changing once the major sports seasons and fall shows kick in, especially as Disney hasn’t been releasing as many new shows over the summer.
Netflix rode the momentum of a strong June into July, notching a 5% monthly viewing increase to achieve a platform record of 8.8% of TV. Netflix’s consecutive monthly uptick was driven by a continued steady flow of new releases among original and acquired titles, which led the streamer to represent eight of July’s top 10 streaming titles. Its original series Squid Game was this month’s most-watched title, with “Bluey” continuing to do the heavy lifting for Disney+, while “Grey’s Anatomy” was the only other Disney title on the top ten shows of the month. While Disney did have some good news with its daily news show, “ABC World News Tonight”, which was the 19th most-watched show on broadcast.
- #1 – Squid Game, 5.4 billion minutes, Netflix
- #2 – Love Island USA, , 5.3 billion minutes, Peacock
- #3 – Blindspot, 4.15 billion minutes, Netflix
- #4 – Untamed, 4.14 billion, Netflix
- #5 – Animal Kingdom, 4.0 billion, Netflix
- #6 – Bluey, 3.53 billion, Disney+
- #7 – KPop Demon Hunters, 3.51 billion, Netflix
- #8 – Sullivan’s Crossing, 3.4 billion, Netflix
- #9 – Happy Gilmore 2, 2.9 billion, Netflix
- #10 – Grey’s Anatomy, 2.8 billion, Netflix / Hulu
In addition to Netflix, The Roku Channel (2.8%) and YouTube (13.4%) also set platform records in July. The Roku Channel exhibited the largest monthly usage increase across all platforms with a 7.5% lift vs. June, while YouTube viewing climbed 2% with 18-24 year-old viewers notching the largest increase among age demographics (+8%).
Roger’s Take: The monthly Gauge data from Nielsen is always a good indication of how the American audience is consuming its television. Streaming continues to take a larger and larger share of the pie each month. Just this time last year, streaming made up 41.4% of the total viewership. It’s likely by next summer, half of all television viewing will be a streaming platform, which is why the major studios are shifting strategies to offering streaming alternatives, such as the new ESPN app, which launches later week.
