“Cars: Lightning Racers” Series Coming To Disney+ & Disney Jr

Disney has announced details on a brand new animated series based on the classic Pixar franchise, “Cars”, which will be called “Cars: Lightning Racers”.

Building on Disney and Pixar’s beloved “Cars” franchise, “Cars: Lightning Racers” follows Lightning McQueen as he gears up for all-new adventures in Radiator Springs alongside his hilarious best friend Mater and new friends thrill-seeking drag car Pipes and mud-loving monster truck Miles.

The all-star cast returning to their original roles includes Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Tony Shalhoub as Luigi, Cheech Marin as Ramone, Bob Peterson as Chick Hicks and John Ratzenberger as Mack. Leah Lewis (“Elemental”) and Yuri Lowenthal (“Marvel Rivals” video game) join the cast as Pipes and Miles, respectively. Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”) will also voice a new character, Ms. Blinker.

Disney Television Animation is producing this show in association with Pixar and is being executive produced by Travis Braun and Frank Montagna.  The show’s story editor will be Dana Starfield, and the supervising director will be Nathan Chew.

“Cars: Lightning Racers” will debut in 2027 on Disney Jr and Disney+.  The previous films, along with the spin-off animated short series, are also available to stream on Disney+.

Roger’s Take:  The “Cars” franchise is one of the most successful Pixar franchises in terms of merchandise sales and positioning a new animated show at preschoolers is a perfect way to keep fans engaged and getting the original cast back to provide the voices shows that Disney is taking this seriously.   It’s worth noting that since Pixar isn’t making this, it will likely be a slight downgrade from the movie, similar to “Monsters At Work”.
