The pirates return to wreak havoc on Nevarro and the Mandalorians have to step up and save the people when the New Republic refuses to intervene in the latest episode of the Lucasfilm and Disney+ Original Series “The Mandalorian.” Din Djarin and Bo-Katan are able to convince the Mandalorians to help out despite the fact the people of Nevarro made them live underground. The Mandalorians find a new home, Bo-Katan goes on a mission to find other Mandalorians and a New Republic pilot finds the ship that was supposed to transport Moff Gideon to prison.

This was a bit of a side quest episode. While the introduction of the pirates in the first episode made it clear they would return causing Din Djarin to return, I actually thought it would happen sooner. However, it was an interesting way to launch the second half of the season. Din Djarin and Bo-Katan make a dynamic pairing, much in the same way that Din Djarin and Boba Fett made a dynamic pair in season two. It’s interesting to see what happens to the Mandalorians in their new home that was also their old home, especially with proof that the living waters are still on Mandalore.

This episode does a good job of tying in the other story from episode three. It was a bit odd to see the New Republic storyline basically take over the episode, but this episode helps make that episode make sense. It’s clear the New Republic is making many of the same mistakes of both the original Republic and the Empire. Moff Gideon’s former crew mate seems to be making her way through the New Republic and that could be problematic for the Mandalorians, Nevarro and probably anyone who sees the problems the New Republic is having. While I know some fans would like to get rid of the sequel trilogy, the Mandalorian is doing a good job of filling the holes that allowed for the rise of the First Order and why the good guys were the Resistance.

I was also a big fan of this week’s cameo. Admittedly, sometimes Dave Filoni falls into a trap where he introduces his favorite characters from other works in a way that doesn’t make sense, but this one does. The X-Wing pilot talked to Zeb, from “Rebels,” in the bar before seeking permission to help Nevarro. Zeb is the third character to have appeared in both “Rebels” and “The Mandalorian” after Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan. His introduction also made far more sense than Cad Bane’s in “The Book of Boba Fett.”

This week’s teaser is setting up an interesting storyline for the final three episodes. How did Moff Gideon disappear? Was he attacked or was he rescued? We saw the Beskar in the ship that is clearly hinting at Mandalorian involvement. The question is, did one of the previous Mandalorians we saw in season two attack him? Did Boba Fett attack him? Are the Mandalorians being framed? These are some great questions going forward.
