Disney’s 20th Television Studios is developing a new untitled comedy series for Netflix, which is being created and executive produced by Erin Foster (Daddy Issues), along with executive produced by Steven Levitan (Modern Family/Reboot), who both have overall deals with the studio. Kristen Bell (Frozen), will also star in and executive produce the show.

This new untitled comedy series is loosely based on Foster’s real-life experiences. It centres on the unlikely relationship between an irreverent, outspoken, agnostic woman (Bell) and an unconventional rabbi.

The series has previously gone by the working title of ‘Shiksa’.  20th Television has worked with Netflix before on original series, including “Arrested Development” (which is ironically leaving Netflix later this month), in addition to creating “Hoops”, “Ratched” and “The Politician” for Netflix.

Earlier this month, Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke during an Investors Call and said they would be open to making shows for other networks, in a way of making their entertainment division more profitable. This will be the first new show created for Netflix since Disney started to focus on creating content for its own streaming services, rather than for other platforms. Just this week, Disney’s 20th Television created a new show, “True Lies”, which CBS/Paramount+ is releasing in the United States, plus ABC has been working with Paramount for “Criminal Minds”. Both of these shows have been released on Disney+ internationally, though it’s very likely this new comedy series will be exclusive to Netflix globally.  As studios continue to look for ways to become more profitable, it’s likely we will see more deals like this.

Craig DiGregorio, Sara Foster and Danielle Stokdyk. Oly Obst and Josh Lieberman are also executive producers for 3 Arts. 20th Television produces in association with studio-based Steven Levitan Prods.
