20th Century Studios has won the rights to adapt Duane Swierczynski’s New York Times bestselling novel “California Bear” into a movie.

This new thriller follows four unlikely vigilantes whose decision to take justice into their own hands pits them against the villain behind California’s coldest murder case.

Gary Lennon is writing the screenplay, which will be produced by Duane and Proximity Media’s Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian. Rebecca Cho will also executive produce and oversee the project along with Hannah Levy for Proximity Media.

This will be the first project that Proximity Media has worked on with 20th Century Studios. The project will be developed by 20th’s Director of Production, Rashonda Joplin and Creative Executive Catherine Hughes.

Deadline has not revealed any other details on the movie, such as a potential release date, either in cinemas or directly onto Hulu/Disney+, or who will star in it.
