“Mosquito” Coming Soon To Disney+ & Hulu
Disney has announced a brand new British original series called “Mosquito”, which will be coming soon to Disney+ and Hulu.
The new series will be created by acclaimed screenwriter, Tony McNamara, who previously worked on “The Great” and “Poor Things”. The show gives viewers a sardonic look at a young couple’s relationship, starring Golden Globe and Emmy award-nominated Nicholas Hoult (“Superman,” “Nosferatu”) and BAFTA and Emmy award-nominated Daisy Edgar-Jones (“Normal People”, “Twisters”).
The British powerhouse leads play Kate and Ed, a recently married couple whose secrets begin to surface as daily life chips away at the personas they present… all started by an intrusive mosquito.
Tony McNamara, writer and executive producer, said in a statement:
“I’m thrilled and excited to work with and team up two of the best actors around. I can’t wait to go make absurd comedy with them.”
In a joint statement, Eric Schrier, president, Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy, The Walt Disney Company, and Angela Jain, Head of Content, Disney+ EMEA, said:
“Tony is one of the most talented writers working in film and television today, with a legacy of incredible success at Disney. He has an unmatched ability to bring fascinating and complex stories to life weaving sharply written, intricate dialogue with signature dark-humour and complexity. Partnering with him on ‘Mosquito’ is an incredible step forward for our local original content and reinforces our ambitions in the UK.”
The six-episode Hulu Original Series from the UK marks the reunion of Tony McNamara and Nicholas Hoult following Hulu Original Series “The Great,” which garnered multiple award nominations. “Mosquito” is produced by 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions and Hustle & Punch and is executive produced by Tony McNamara, Nicholas Hoult, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Marian Macgowan, Tracy Underwood, and Daniel Pipski. The series was commissioned for Disney+ by Lee Mason, executive director, scripted, The Walt Disney Company EMEA. Filming begins in 2026 and will stream on Disney+ and Hulu globally.
Roger’s Take: It’s great to see these two actors appearing in a new series for Disney+ and Hulu, as they’ve been fantastic in their previous films and shows. It’s also good to see more British originals in development for Disney+, especially as this looks like a show that will have broad appeal around the world.
